Bay of the Somme and wild seal-watching
Experience the Somme bay, ranked amongst the most enjoyable bays in the world and stroll around the cobbled streets of Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme medieval town. Breath the fresh air of the English Channel, where no less than six rivers drain into it and go wild seals watching in this beautiful natural setting.
The program is subject to the tide schedule although it will likely be the following order:Departure from Paris at around 8 am.
On the way to 'La Baie de Somme', stop in Amiens, capital of the Somme department and discover the largest Gothic cathedral in France, considered as a masterpiece of medieval architecture. Incidentally, Amiens is where the current French President, Emmanuel Macron, is originated from.On arrival to the 'Baie de Somme', stroll around the cobbled streets of the charming Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme medieval town with a stunning view from its promontory heights over the bay.
Lunch time in the village.
In the Afternoon :
Option 1: Hike across the bay between Le Crotoy and Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme, which is the major attraction here. Follow your local wildlife guide through the bay and salt marshes, feet in the slit, experiencing the enchanting change of light. Your license guide will await from you on the other side of the bay to drive back to Paris. Fit conditions are required for this option. Boots or sneakers are most recommanded.
Option 2: Wild seal-watching from the little town of Le Hourdel, the largest wild seal colony in France. Follow your local wildlife guide who will provide you binoculars.
Return to Paris at around 7 pm.
